There are a variety of ways to recruit people into your business opportunity. We have all seen the ads on the internet, read about it and heard about the latest and greatest ways to bring in 5, 10, or 15 people every week from the so called guru’s in the network marketing industry. The reality is, most people would be very excited if they could bring in even 2 to 4 people consistently every month.

The fact is recruiting is the lifeblood of your business. You can’t create a solid business unless you either sponsor enough new business affiliates and/or bring in new customers. It’s interesting how many people focus solely on bringing in business builders and forget about just having new customers. When you are building your home based business, you want both business builders and customers.

I’m sure you have heard about individuals that have achieved great success in only 3 to 6 months after joining XYZ company. However, did you ever consider how they actually achieved so much success in a short period of time? Chances are they came into that company with a large circle of contacts. So don’t compare their results with yours.

So what do you do if you do not have a large contact base or credibility with people?

My suggestion is to create one. Now this won’t be quick or easy to do. However, by staying focused and being dedicated, one can create a large circle of friends that respect them and over time some will join you in your home based business. As leaders, its our responsibility to bring new people in the right way and to teach them correct business building strategies.

There are dozens of methods to use and everyone has their own techniques and strategies on recruiting. First, you could go out to one of the leads companies who specialize in business opportunity leads and purchase one of their packages, then start calling those prospects. I have done that before with basically zero results. One thing to note on leads as a general rule. They have a very low success rate, so if you have deep pockets and don’t mind calling hundreds and possibly thousands of people to build a business, then go for it. I would suggest you stop wasting your money by buying leads.

There are other ways to create your own leads that are unique to you. I have used a system called Veretekk. It’s a marketing system that is designed to help you create your own premium leads. Just Google Veretekk and sign up for a free system via their home company page. They offer a variety of free training on SEO and other internet strategies.

Second, some people really like the 3 foot rule and face to face interactions. I know of many people who have built large and successful home based businesses by this method. In fact, the highest success rate is still face to face. For example, you can attend chamber of commerce etc meetings, network meetings in your local area, personal development seminars are great places to meet and mingle with like minded individuals.

Have you ever considered calling business professionals like Real Estate professionals, mortgage brokers and insurance agents. Why you might ask? Think about it for a moment. What do all 3 have in common? They are in sales and get paid for production. So they understand that if you want to be successful in your own business opportunity, they will need to bring in new people and customers.

Third, is to shake hands online and get to know people and create an online presence via social networking. The social networking has grown exponentially over the past few years like Facebook, MySpace, Squidoo etc. Now this will take time doing anything online, especially when people can’t see you face to face. So again, its investing time in people that will win you your financial freedom.

This is why most people quit and stay broke. It does not matter what program you are in, if you recruit one solid person in this manner every month, one day you will have an awesome freedom income.

From my perspective, being part of a team of like minded people sharing a similar vision of the future, being passionate about a product mission in an environment that inspires, encourages and teaches is the most effective method to accomplish this. I remember several years ago, a group of team members had a forum that I belonged to and we would post dialy articles and make comments about all aspects of developing a home based business, leadership, coaching to other areas such as, the most effective ways to create a residual income. That was before blogs became mainstream as they are today.

Since 2004, blogging has become mainstream for companies, organizations, politics, TV and home based business professions. One recent estimate, there are approximately 100 million plus blogs and growing exponentially daily. A blog is simple to set up and in basic terms is a website about whatever you want to write about and post online. Whenver you search for information on Google, you will likely come across multiple blogs on any subject today. To find out more about the types of blogs and how to set one up, I would suggest you just Google it.

In order to get top placements on Google, one needs to understand that good relevant original content is king on Google. Your central focus as it applies to blogging for the search engines and achieving top rankings is to write around keywords. No I don’t mean babble, but good content that will help your readers with their home based business and ultimately help them achieve a residual income. For example, if you want to build a home business presence online, one key phrase that you could focus on is residual income in your postings. You don’t need to keep mentioning residual income in every line, but randomly and thougtfully in your article is an effective strategy.

Part of the power of blogging is to write daily and consistently post your information in various blogs. For example, when I write an article about a home based business, I post to places like blogger, blogfather, and bloglines. I have noticed that Google will pick them up and index them on their databases usually within a day. There is no quick fix to obtaining top positions on the search engines with blogging and anyone that advises otherwise is naive or lying to you to get your money. I can blog at hundreds of great websites for free by the way, so don’t pay someone to do this. Just sit down and write some stuff, that’s what I do to build a successful home based busines.

To optimize your blogging experience while building your home based business, I would suggest you bold your keyword or phrase a couple of times. I would not suggest you do it for the entire article. The search engine spiders seem to like it and take notice of the keywords bolded. Always include your name and a couple of other links in your blog to your primary website and even a couple of other blogs. It has been my understanding that you can place the same content in multiple blogs and you will not be penalized by the search engines. Just don’t try and copy other information that doesn’t belong to you as those search engine spiders may pick it up. This will further you ability to generate a residual income in your home business.

Please don’t fall victim to those professing they have some super new software program to get instant top ranking positions on Goole in 1 day. It takes time to build a home based business and develop a residual income. Most people simply do not have the patience to do this on a daily basis. What really is a scam on the Internet? Sometimes I wonder. Over many years I joined in a business franchise that sounded good, but once on the inside it wasn’t as good as it sounded or the service and tech support were not adequate. To find out how to make money on Internet you will need to wade though many choices and find what works for you. I base my decisions on two areas, ONE the facts that are presented about the company and products, but more so by the quality of the person that I would be working with. Well, I for one don’t think it is necessarily growing in percent but that we are becoming more aware of it due to the mass media, which also includes the internet. Have you ever wanted to start a home based business? Do you know how to develop a passive residual income or start a home business? Why do you want a home based business? These are important questions you must ponder and give some thought to. How do I get started or where do I go to learn about all this stuff? If you are reading this, I hope it’s because you wish to build a peaceful residual income and take control of your life.

From all that I have learned, read and observed over the past 10 years in the network marketing profession, successful people have 3 common traits that they have to build a solid passive residual income.

Those 3 elements are:

(1) A big “Why”
(2) Heart
(3) Being Coachable

Without those 3 elements as a foundation, everything else doesn’t matter in my opinion. You see – those 3 critical traits sets the stage for building a successful home based business and going through the ups and downs of creating a residual income. One must seriously consider their “Why” – because it will require they invest 10-15 hours a week over the next 3 to 5 years minimum if they want a solid home business. If it’s only for the money, they will not last because money at some point in the future will not be the driving force to building a passive residual income. Your why is your core desire about why you want to invest so much time in a home based business and what is it that you truly want out of life. For example, it could be to have your significant other home with the kids on a full time basis. It could be to have a better quality of life for your family, taking an extra vacation, purchasing a new vehicle or all of the above.

In other words, is your “why” big enough to push you through those challenging times when your business is not going so well or its late at night and your tired in need of some sleep. Successful people have a big why and are willing to forgo some sleep, invest some extra time away from the family to get the business going. By the way, to have a successful home based business and develop a residual income, you will sacrifice some time with your family. It’s simply not possible to work full time, develop a home business and devote the same time to your family. I’m not suggesting this will last forever, but your why needs to be important enough that you understand the reason you are doing this home based business. It’s because you want a better quality of life.

The second element is you need to truly care about helping others succeed and having a heart. Help enough people get what they want and you will in time achieve your level of success in a home based business. If you are only in this for yourself, good luck. Over the years I have seen many people fail in our business who didn’t fully understand the truth in that line. They felt they didn’t need the “Personal Growth” material, all they needed were the mechanics, and the Nuts & Bolts, scripts etc and they would just “do it”. With a touch of arrogance perhaps they just felt they knew all about that stuff and were above taking the time to learn how to become more every day.

Leaders are readers and understand that nobody is ever finished that journey. That one major quality of all real leaders is that they constantly are working upon themselves to be better and more each day. Remember, this is a people business and you need to invest time in people and develop a relationship over the long term to create a truly successful home based business and have a solid residual income in network marketing.

The third element and perhaps one of the most important is how coachable are you. Our business is a “People Business”. We are in the business of attracting quality people and helping them enhance their lives by enhancing the lives of others. If you are the type of person that knows it all, good luck again. It doesn’t hurt you to let someone else help you be successful in your home based business. I learned this from a very good friend and my coach – Cameron Howard. We used to butt heads a lot many years ago and still do some days, but I can truly say without hesitation that I have learned so much from him and am very thankful that he invested time with me. A good coach and mentor will be your roadmap, invest time in you and help you become successful to the best of their abilities.

We must be coachable to attract other people that are also coachable. As we grow into a stronger position of leadership, we develop the skills to coach the coaches to coach the coachable. Everybody is always a Leader-In-Training and remains so.

So, are you coachable? Take a moment and look at the results in your life to date and ponder where you may have been more trainable and thus more successful. Perhaps you have read all “those” books and feel you know better. If you attract others just like yourself, and you will – are they going to succeed with their present attitudes and philosophies? Experience has proven to us that only those that are truly coachable grow into positions of leadership. All leaders are fully aware that they must first be followers and remain open minded to learning more always. Does that describe you?

A good coach and mentor, is about being a friend and creating a relationship, realizing it just takes time. Respect is earned. If we do not invest time in people we will not be successful, thus we will not be able to develop a solid residual income or have a successful and long lasting home based business. The secret is to develop the skill to know who best to invest our time with. People are an intangible thing. It takes time to truly get to know another person and even at that we only know most people somewhat. To further complicate matters, there is no way to know beforehand just who is going to be successful. There is no way to truly be sure if a person’s desire to BE Free is so strong that they will go through the obstacles on the path to success. Many people enter our home business with a ton of people handling skills, leadership experience, family needs etc, in short, all that one would think they need to be tremendously successful and they never do a thing. Others, with little experience etc just go out and “do it” because they want it so bad they will pay the price to learn the skills necessary to succeed.

There is no proven way to measure the “Right Stuff” of a person until they are actually in the field doing it. There are “leading indicators” that suggest the potential is there however. These take time to ascertain and become aware of. It can’t be done effectively and consistently in a 5 or 10 minute conversation. It just takes time to get to know people and for them to get to know us. If you want a solid home based business and a solid residual income, realize you need to invest time in people, develop respect for each other and be a friend.

All of the skills needed to build a peaceful residual income are learnable. Every single person reading this document can BE another success story and have a solid home based business. Everybody!

Ever wonder why some people are really successful? Well, let’s all grasp the full meaning of Carpe Diem – “Seize the day”. It is a wonderful principal to live our lives by. Make the most of today with no regrets about yesterday or worries about tomorrow. Take hold of Today, focus or visualize on building your residual income in a home based business now. Carpe Diem…!!! Don’t worry about tomorrow! Don’t fret about yesterday. Today is where it’s at and you need to focus on building your home based business and residual income today! Make a list this morning of things you wish to do today and visualize success and completing those tasks that you set out to complete. Put them in priority. Start at the top and take action. Sounds so very simple doesn’t it? Just like our home business – simple but not easy.

Inch by inch it’s a cinch. Everyday, I try and reach out and make contact with at least 2 new people and simply try and make a friend. If I do that everyday and stay in touch with people that I like, do you realize what will happen? Over the coming year I will find a pile of new friends and somewhere in there will come a few new successful business partners. Now, I’m better at doing that today than I was last year. So every year I can grow my Circle of Influence to a higher degree. Many of these new friends will refer me to people as well. I know by experience that this just takes time.
