Perhaps now is the time given the current financial crises that is occurring around the world to start looking around to make some extra money. People are going bankrupt and losing their homes at an alarming rate. What we used to think was safe like banks, are no longer. Government bailouts are now the norm around the globe and oil prices are plunging. It’s not all gloom and doom, but this is a very serious situation and one that you need to have a Plan B.

Get a second job? Move in with your In-Laws because you can’t afford the rent? I’m sure like most people, you have been impacted in some way during the past 2 months of economic uncertainty. So what are you going to do about it? Did you know that sales on the internet are climbing while sales in stores are falling? Well over 50% of all people purchase products or services thorough internet. That is more even than it seems, as still in this age, many people do not even have computers. So let us assume you are interested in more income and a more secure financial base. What do you look for in a home based business to make money online?

In my experience, starting a home based business opportunity on the internet can be shaky if you do not follow certain rules:

1 – How long has the company been in business and what is their reputation? Some people make a big mistake about jumping into the newest and greatest just to be involved in a home based business opportunity. WRONG – the new company has no market visibility and track record. They have not had time in the Beta Version to work out the bugs. Think about it this way, if your goal was to sell cheep junk food (ugh) would you rather own a Golden Arches or a no name that nobody has ever heard of a junk food joint? Do you see the point.

2 – What is their plan for options of ways you will be able to work your business? We are not all made from the same mold and so variations need to be available. Also, will they be able and WILLING to help you. Is this a team effort OR are you on your own; sink or swim concept? Sadly, way too many companies make their income by getting you in and once you have invested into your business then cut you loose while they look for the next person.

3 – Can they lay out with you a plan to develop your home based business opportunity and show you what investment you need to make, at what time table, for you to be successful? You do not want to be caught by surprise! What is the financial pay plan? That is a part of developing your plan to make money online.

4 – What training is being offered by the company for you to be successful in your home based business opportunity? Some have all the training in the same company and some have partnered with outstanding training companies. YES, you will need training and trainers that are accessible to you. Live training, recorded and printed AND people who you can talk to WITHOUT paying them by the hour for questions. Think of the Team concept where people help each other. Some companies make a lot of their profit selling you training programs. Red Flag!

5 – The Quality of Products is critical to be successful for any home based business opportunity. They need to be 100% guaranteed without a hassle to return. BTW what is their return rate? And are the products in high demand? Despite the economy, are people still using these products on a daily basis? Some of the hottest areas are health, wellness, and green concepts. Look for winners with a BIG name, do not be afraid that has already been out there and been sold for a long time. That is important, you want that. Also, what is their REORDER rate? It should be high and they need a long track record to show that to you.

6- Are they willing to give you several easy ways to communicate with them? They need to be truly available or you can find yourself blowing in the wind. And do they communicate with you in a way that is comfortable? Do they listen to YOU? Or is it hype and razzle? I like solid people with both feet on the ground and some good experience behind their belt.

Following these guide lines will take you a long ways toward building a successful and solid home based business opportunity.
